The Silent Heart Damage of Long COVID – What Your Arteries Can Tell You

The Longevity Blind Spots: 6 Metrics You’re Ignoring That Could Cost You Years

You track your sleep. You monitor your steps. Maybe you’ve even gone zero-sugar, started cold plunging, or tested your biological age. But are you measuring the health metrics that actually predict how long you’ll live?

Most popular trackers show outputs: heart rate, strain, calories burned. But real longevity starts with inputs—the early warning signs that shape your cardiovascular, cognitive, and metabolic trajectory long before symptoms show up.

Longevity isn’t about biohacking for some future version of yourself. It’s about addressing what’s silently shortening your life now and focusing on what actually improves your odds of living longer and better. These six metrics are measurable today—and they help you do both.

1. Central Blood Pressure: The True Pressure on Your Organs

The pressure your heart actually experiences—not just what shows up on your arm.

Central blood pressure (CBP) tells you what your heart, brain, and kidneys are truly up against. Unlike traditional cuffs that measure pressure in your arm, CBP captures the pressure inside the aorta—where cardiovascular damage begins.

In the Strong Heart Study, central blood pressure was a significantly stronger predictor of cardiovascular events than brachial blood pressure—even when arm readings looked normal.

If you’re still using a standard cuff to assess your risk, it may be time to modernize your strategy.

2. Arterial Stiffness: A Hidden Sign of Cardiovascular Aging

Your arteries might be aging faster than you are.

As arteries stiffen, your heart has to work harder—and the extra pressure affects your most vital systems: the brain, kidneys, and your body’s overall circulation. Metrics like augmentation pressure (AP) and augmentation index (AIx) show how early this stiffness is setting in.

A major meta-analysis found that individuals with elevated arterial stiffness had more than twice the risk of dying from cardiovascular disease or any cause

Arterial age isn’t a vanity metric. It’s measurable, modifiable, and grounded in real outcomes.

3. SEVR: Is Your Heart Getting Enough Oxygen?

When your heart’s oxygen supply can’t keep up with its demand, your risk increases.

SEVR tells you whether your heart is getting enough oxygen to meet its demands—especially during periods of stress. A low SEVR means your heart may be working harder than it should, with less oxygen available to fuel it.

In people with chronic kidney disease, a low SEVR is a stronger predictor of dying from cardiovascular disease than standard lab tests like cholesterol or creatinine.

If you’re under stress or have metabolic risk factors, SEVR gives early insight into how your heart is holding up under pressure.

4. VO₂ Max: The Underrated Predictor of Lifespan

A powerful, but often overlooked measured of long-term fitness and healthspan.

VO₂ max reflects your body’s capacity to use oxygen efficiently. It’s a strong predictor of lifespan, yet it’s rarely measured outside elite sports.

In a large, long-term study, each 1-unit increase in VO₂ max was linked to a 9% drop in all-cause mortality. Maintaining it as you age may be just as protective as quitting smoking.

You don’t need to be a triathlete—but you do need to stay metabolically fit.

5. Fasting Insulin: Your Early Warning for Metabolic Risk

Normal blood sugar doesn’t mean you’re in the clear.

Most routine checkups focus on blood glucose—not insulin. But insulin resistance often starts years before your blood sugar rises, quietly driving up your risk for cardiovascular disease and metabolic decline.

In fact, studies have found that higher fasting insulin levels are linked to a 34% increase in all-cause mortality and more than double the risk of cardiovascular death in adults without diabetes.

If you’ve never had your fasting insulin tested, you’re not alone—but you may be missing one of the clearest early warnings for long-term risk.

6. Waist-to-Height Ratio: Fast Insight Into Visceral Fat Risk

Simple. Validated. No fancy tech required.

Visceral fat is the deep belly fat that wraps around internal organs. It fuels inflammation, arterial stiffness, and insulin resistance—even in people who appear lean. Waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) is a fast, evidence-backed way to assess this.

A long-term study of more than 40,000 adults found WHtR was more predictive of years of life lost than BMI—particularly when it exceeded 0.5.

This metric takes 30 seconds to measure and can reveal hidden fat linked to shorter lifespan.

Why Longevity Starts With Arterial Health

You’ve upgraded how you track sleep, glucose, and macros. But most people are still using outdated tools to assess the system that powers everything: your arteries.

Biological age? It’s a headline. Arterial health? That’s the foundation.

At CONNEQT Health, we focus on the subtle shifts that silently shape your long-term health—changes that often start years before symptoms appear. It’s about helping you answer the most important questions:

“Am I OK?”
“What can I do about it today?”

Metrics like central blood pressure, arterial stiffness, and SEVR used to be measured only in clinical or research settings. Now, you can track them at home with the CONNEQT Pulse—in just a few minutes a day.

These measurements help you see how your cardiovascular system is aging—and what actions might support a longer, healthier life.

Because longevity isn’t about chasing more years at the expense of now. It’s about protecting your future while feeling your best today.

And it starts with your arteries.
